A €55m extension to the T1 terminal building at Dublin Airport has been given the go-ahead by An Bord Pleanala.
The 7,500 square metre extension will be built at the north-western corner of the terminal.
More circulation space will be provided for passengers, there will be additional retail space and an enlarged and reconfigured check-in area at the northern end of the terminal.
The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) said it will not be increasing airport charges to pay for the new facility as it will be self-funding due to the additional retail income that it will generate.
Work on the extension will begin shortly, The first elements of the new facility will be available for use early next year and the extension will be completed by the summer of 2009.
