A light-rail system would be 'very beneficial' to Belfast, Northern Ireland Minister for Regional Development Conor Murphy has announced.
Speaking at a meeting with local traders in west Belfast, he said he hopes work on a new light-rail system will begin before he leaves office.
The minister also acknowledged businesses were suffering due to congestion and a lack of parking facilities, and urgent action should be taken to kick-start the project.
Mr Murphy said: "I think obviously it would be very beneficial for the city of Belfast to try and get a good rapid transport system.
"What form this takes, because we’re trying to get it through an already built-up area, is something that we have to look at, but all options are being considered."
