A Scarva man was convicted at Newry Magistrates’ Court for breaches of waste management legislation.
Noel Martin (37) from Scarva, Craigavon, pleaded guilty to two offences and was fined a total of £5,000 and ordered to pay court costs.
Environment and Heritage Service officers investigated a site owned by Mr Martin on May, 2007 and found controlled wastes in the form of scrap metal, end of life vehicles and parts of vehicles.
The site did not have a licence to operate as an authorised treatment facility for end of life vehicles. The officers informed Mr Martin that he needed a license or an exemption to keep controlled waste at the site.
Mr Martin was fined under the Waste and Contaminated Land (Northern Ireland) Order 1997. (GK)
