Local Aerospace Engineering Company Wins Contract

Dundonald-based aerospace engineering consultancy BASE has won a major export deal for its expert services in Switzerland.

The company, which has taken part in a series of Invest Northern Ireland export programmes including trade missions and exhibitions such as the Farnborough, Paris and Berlin air shows, is working with Zurich-based Jet Aviation on a new aircraft project.

Jet Aviation is a global leader in aircraft engineering, refurbishment and maintenance services. BASE has an established client portfolio that includes Bombardier Aerospace as well as suppliers of major aerostructures to Boeing and Airbus.

Ian Kelly, a BASE founding director, announced the news, said: "This is very significant business for us from one of the world's most respected engineering businesses in commercial and private jet aviation services."

He continued: "Our participation in Invest NI programmes, including Preparation for Export, has enabled us to strengthen our export marketing activities and to make important contacts which have led to new business in Europe and further afield."

Invest NI's Director of Trade Alan Hingston also welcomed the news. He said: "BASE is also an integral part of aerospace engineering and manufacturing, one of the most significant industrial clusters. It's a cluster that we are encouraging to grow faster through participation in major international exhibitions in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

"BASE is an ambitions and entrepreneurial company which has seized the opportunities provided by these initiatives to grow its international business."
