Green Light For Airport Terminal

The go-ahead has been given for the first phase of development for the terminal building at Ireland West Airport Knock.

An Bord Pleanala granted planning permission after considering an appeal made by a third party in September 2007.

The appeal was lodged after Mayo County Council originally approved plans for the new extension to the existing terminal building at Ireland West Airport Knock.

The Airport has confirmed the essential development work will now proceed to tender with the aim of completing the works by the end of this year.

The Airport can currently facilitate around 500,000 annually but with the completion of the first stage of development it will be able to cope with 800,000 passengers annually.

The second extension planned for 2009-2010 forming part of the Airport's €46m Capital Development Programme.
