Search Commences for Ireland's Most Energy Efficient Firms

Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) in association with ESB Customer Supply has commenced the search for the most energy efficient firms in Ireland.

Now in their fifth year, the Awards are intended to encourage, recognise and reward excellence in energy management in the industrial, commercial and public sectors, and attract entries from a diverse array of organisations throughout Ireland.

Last year saw a large increase in SMEs entering the competition, showing that significant savings can be made in any kind of business if strong action is taken.

In 2007, 100 participating companies demonstrated energy savings in excess of €23m.

Participation is expected to grow in 2008, as more and more businesses, including small businesses, become involved in energy saving actions.

According to the General Manager of ESB Customer Supply Pat Fenlon, it is extremely important that businesses understand that their energy costs are manageable.

"This is the message we really want to get across. Energy costs can be managed just like any other cost within a business. Commitment is essential along with the development of an energy plan to increase energy efficiency.

"ESB Customer Supply is delighted to be sponsoring these awards again this year as they encourage businesses to become more energy efficient," he said.

The deadline for receipt of nominations for the Awards is Friday April 25th 2008. Winners will be announced at a Gala event in November 2008.

Among last years winners were the Lodge & Spa at Inchydoney Island, Diageo and Pfizer Ireland Pharmaceuticals.
