Traveller Build Gets Go-Ahead

Fingal County Council has approved plans to develop Traveller accommodation at Ardla, near Skerries in north Dublin.

Councillors have given the green light - without taking a vote - to the plans despite efforts by property developers to have the accommodation re-sited.

Treasury Holdings had offered the council an alternative site to the west of Milverton Demesne. It also offered to develop a resource centre in addition to permanent housing - as the company would otherwise experience ''severe difficulties'' in finding a five-star hotel operator for its Milverton Demesne development if the council decided to locate the permanent Traveller accommodation nearby.

The 437 acre Milverton scheme, which will create 500 jobs, includes a hotel, two designer golf courses and housing. Work is scheduled to begin later this year.
