A National Roads Authority (NRA) decision to build a roundabout on HSE owned land near the N22 has enraged Kilarney residents and town councillors.
The residents have long been campaigning for a roundabout just over a kilometre away to relieve severe traffic congestion.
Just recently, the latest in a series of calls from the town council for the provision of a roundabout at the eastern extremity of the N22 bypass was rejected by the NRA.
However, a proposed roundabout for the opposite end- which would facilitate access to St Finan's Mental Health facility towards the west of Kilarney bypass - has been agreed in principle by the NRA.
The decision has prompted stinging criticism from local councillors who said that as yet they have not even been consulted on the issue.
It has also been reported that there are plans for much of the HSE land bank to be sold off for development.
