An Bord Pleanála has finally given the go-ahead for a redevelopment of the Curragh Racecourse in Co Kildare.
Proposals - which were passed by Kildare County Council in October 2006 - include creating a new state-of-the-art grandstand, a new parade ring, new block with roof terrace, new weigh room, press room, retail and associated landscaping work.
An appeal was lodged with An Bord Pleanála by Friends of the Curragh Environment Limited, Percy Podger & Associates in 2006.
However, the appeals board deferred judgement several times before giving the green light to the proposals.
Subject to 15 conditions, An Bord Pleanála today passed the grandstand, which will cover more than 25,000 sq m.
Full details on the redevelopment decision will be released tomorrow.
