Co Down Companies Fined For Waste Offences

Two Co Down companies were fined £500 each yesterday at Castlereagh Magistrates' Court for waste disposal offences.

TJ Shields and Sons, a civil engineering company of Drumgavlin Road, Ballynahinch, was fined £500 plus £79 costs. The company pleaded guilty to one charge of treating, keeping, and disposing of controlled waste without a waste management licence at a site on the Cadger Road, Carryduff.

Orlock Ltd, a construction company of Peartree Road, Saintfield, was also fined £500 plus £79 costs after pleading guilty to permitting the disposal of controlled waste on the same site at Cadger Road.

During a mobile operation in the Castlereagh area on 4 February 2005, Environment and Heritage Service officers discovered an area of unauthorised waste disposal and infilling at a site owned by Orlock Ltd at Cadger Road, Carryduff. While the officers were present, a lorry owned by TJ Shields and Sons deposited a load of controlled waste on the site.
