The green light has been given for Donegal County Council to put the design, build and operate contract to tender for the Letterkenny Sewerage Scheme, according to Donegal North East Fianna Fáil TD Niall Blaney.
Welcoming the news, Deputy Blaney said the Scheme will include a new wastewater treatment plant, a sludge treatment plant, pumping stations, new stormwater treatment, rising mains and the upgrade of sewers.
"This Scheme is being funded under the Department of Environment's Water Services Investment Programme 2007 - 2009," he said.
"It is needed in Letterkenny as this time to meet the domestic and commercial needs in Letterkenny now and into the future.
"The town is growing at such a rapid pace and will continue to do so into the future. This significant investment will mean that this growth can continue to take place with the assurance that the local environment is being protected and enhanced," he said.
