Improvement Schemes For Donegal Pier And Leitrim Water

A €435,000 funding boost has been announced for Donegal's Inisboffin Island pier.

An additional grant of €145,000 will be provided, for improvement works, by Donegal County Council.

A total of €580,000 will be invested into the redevelopment scheme, which will see the end of the current pier being removed and rebuilt.

The current state of the pier has been deemed unsafe, but this grant will allow a 16-metre extension to be constructed, as well as works to strengthen the pier to be undertaken.

The contract for the work has been awarded to a local firm, who is set to kick-off the project in the coming weeks.

Tánaiste Mary Coughlan and Donegal South West Deputy Pat The Cope Gallagher have both welcomed the announcement.

Meanwhile, the Irish Environment Minister has unveiled a multi-million euro upgrade of the North Leitrim Regional Water Supply.

Minister John Gormley said the €9.5million scheme would support current and future development needs for the water supply in Moneyduff, Fivemilebourne, Kiltyclogher and Rossinver.

Work on the first phase of the North Leitrim Regional Scheme commenced in 2004, and today’s announcement will further support this part of the overall project.

Manorhamiltion Green Party member Gerry Farry said the substantial funding boost would make a positive difference to North Leitrim's water supply.
