Cross Border Bridge Confirmed

Monaghan County Council and Newry and Mourne District Council have confirmed finalised plans for the construction of a new cross-border bridge.

The current bridge has become an accident hotspot, with several road crashes at its dangerous double bend.

The work will be completed in conjunction with the NI Department of Environment and Roads Service.

The project will encompass the replacement of the two cross border bridges at Annaghroe and Knockaginny.

The bridges each will have a span of 30-35m approximately.

It is proposed that these bridges will be replaced utilising a design and build contract.

The tender process is now underway. Tendering will be done in two-stages, involving pre-qualification leading to a shortlist for tender.
