NI Roads Service has announced plans to carry out a bridge joint replacement at Shanes Viaduct on the M22 Motorway.
Shanes Viaduct is between Junction 2 Ballygrooby and Junction 3 Moneynick.
The improvement works started on Saturday and are expected to run for 11 days.
Mark McPeak, Roads Service's Project Manager, said: "This maintenance work is essential to protect the integrity of this important motorway bridge.
"Traffic management arrangements have been carefully programmed to minimise inconvenience to the travelling public, local residents and businesses, however some disruption will be unavoidable.
"The work will require traffic to be restricted to one lane in each direction for the duration of the work. As a result, some delays will be inevitable and we would ask that motorists be patient as these essential works progress."
To facilitate the implementation and removal of the temporary traffic management arrangements it will be essential to close the M22 for safety reasons.
The details of these closures are as follows:
M22 - North bound carriageway (towards Derry) between Ballygrooby (Junction 2) and Moneynick Road (Junction 3) will be closed between 8pm on Monday 1 September and 6am on Tuesday 2 September 2008.
M22 - South bound carriageway (towards Belfast ) between Moneynick Road (Junction 3) and Ballygrooby (Junction 2) will be closed between 8pm on Sunday 24 August and 6am on Monday 25 August 2008 and between 8pm on Tuesday 2nd September and 6am on Wednesday 3rd September 2008.
