Early Budget Will Help Construction, Says Tánaiste

Tánaiste Mary Coughlan has given a clear indication that the Government will move to support the beleaguered housing market in next month's Budget.

Minister for Finance, Brian Leniham, called on the 2009 budget to be brought forward to October, amid rising unemployment and poor exchequer figures.

Minister Lenihan has said the earlier Budget announcement will help give the country a sound bases for economic recovery.

According to Ms Coughlan, Mr Lenihan has held talk with construction industry representative to discuss ongoing issues.

"The Minister spent a considerable period of time with construction people over the weekend and he will be taking into consideration many of these issues and not just for first-time buyers but for those who need to move on," said the Tánaiste.
