The five local authorities in the midlands region - Westmeath, Offaly, Laois, Longford and North Tipperary - have launched a new booklet entitled 'Business Guide to Wise Waste Management', with the support of Taoiseach Brian Cowen.

Offaly County Council's County Manager welcomed the launch of the guide, he said: "It is hoped that this will be the start of a long and fruitful relationship between local authorities and the business sector."

The booklet was designed by the Environmental Awareness Officers in each County, after recognising a need to enhance and promote green business within the region.

The guide aims to provide practical information and contacts to assist businesses in the region to better manage their various waste streams and to reduce the amount of waste being created.

It is envisaged that this reference booklet will initiate the development of a green business relationship with Local Authorities and businesses in the midlands.
