More gloomy news for the building industry has emerged - with the latest government figures reporting a fall in planning permission.
During the second quarter of this year the granting of permission fell by 16.9% year-on-year.
During the same period in 2007 23,988 developments were approved in comparison to this year's 19,942.
Planning permission for homes fell by a startling 30.8% - with only 12,598 given the go-ahead in contrast to 2007’s 18,201.
On the flipside – planning permission for apartments in Ireland was much more positive.
There was a 26.9% growth – bringing the total number of granted developments to 7,344 compared with the 5,787 approved last year.
One-off houses accounted for almost 20% of all new dwelling units granted permission in the second quarter, according to the Central Statistics Office.
