The body representing Irish builders has urged construction workers in the north west not to flee the country to seek work.
The Construction Industry Federation (CIF) said vital skills would be lost should Irish builders move abroad.
It stressed the north west, in particular, tapped important resources that should be retained in the region.
The Federation's plea follows Tánaiste Mary Couglan's statement in the Dáil, earlier this week, that Fás would support construction workers seeking new opportunities abroad.
CIF Director of Communications Martin Whelan said that it is vital for the north west and the industry as a whole, for workers to remain within the country.
