Plans for the construction of a 250km electricity cable between Ireland and Wales are currently awaiting approval, it has been revealed.
The supplier has indicated work on the massive scheme could begin as soon as next year.
Independent electricity transmission system operator EirGrid plans to lay the high voltage cables under the Irish Sea, stretching from Prestatyn to the north of Dublin.
Around 300,000 homes could be powered by the 500 megawatts of electricity transmitted through the cables.
According to reports, construction work on the scheme could begin as early as next year, provided planning permission is granted.
The entire project could then be fully operational by 2012.
The power would be fed onshore to a converter station in Deeside.
An underground cabling system would be used to convert the electricity to UK standards.
The cables will follow the route of the A548.
