Minister Welcomes Progress Of Moyle Road Improvements

Progress made on a £1.75m Moyle roads investment scheme has been praised by Transport Minister Conor Murphy.

Meeting with the district council and Road Service officials, Mr Murphy said: "Work on the Glenariff Road footway scheme has been completed during the summer months.

"The scheme extended the existing footway from the footbridge at Main Street, Waterfoot for approximately 385m in the direction of Foriff Caravan Park.

"The scheme also included the provision of 150m of safety barrier where the Glenariff Road runs close to the Glenariff River," he said.

The Minister added: "Other schemes which have been completed, or, are ongoing this financial year include traffic calming measures on the Middlepark Road, Cushendall between Kilnadore Park and Gortaclee Road, improvements to the signage and lining of the A2 Ballycastle to Waterfoot route, which was identified as having a higher than expected number of collisions, and traffic calming measures at Duseverick Primary School Bushmills, and St. Patrick's Primary School Waterfoot."

Road Service Principal Engineer Terry Fulton welcomed the continued investment in local transport.

Mr Fulton said: "Roads Service faces some very significant challenges over the next few years as it deals with the ongoing needs for road maintenance, while progressing a demanding programme of strategic road improvements.

"We are also contributing to the work being led by the Department of the Environment, on the implementation of decisions arising from the Review of Public Administration, so that changes to our structure or working arrangements can be planned and implemented smoothly.

"Despite these challenges, Roads Service will continue to concentrate on scheme delivery in the Moyle Council area," he added.
