Road campaigners have blasted the 'rescheduling' of the proposed €30m Castleisland bypass in Kerry.
Campaigners are said to have reacted furiously to the decision to defer the scheme until next year, at least.
The 5.4km stretch of carriage way had reportedly suffered from an upshot in cost.
The National Roads Authority (NRA) has told campaigners the earliest they could hope for a bypass would be from 2010 to 2016.
Campaigners have expressed disappointed at the news.
They believed they had all-party support for the project, and that it was on schedule.
