Mouchel Delivers First Stage Of A5 Corridor

Mouchel's A5 Western Transport Corridor team has delivered early on the first stage of one of the most significant Roads Service projects in Northern Ireland, identifying a preferred corridor and maintaining the positive momentum established early on in the project.

The preferred corridor was recently announced by Roads Minister Conor Murphy, who said the project "will provide significant benefits in terms of improving safety and journey time reliability, and this will have consequential benefits for business, and the overall economy".

Highlighting the broad range of skills required to develop a modern road scheme, teams from Mouchel’s roads, land management, water and flood management, environmental, transport planning, geotechnical, structures, asset management and consultation teams all came together to complete the vital first stage.

Andy Campbell, project director for the A5 scheme, said: "The feedback from Roads Service about our performance so far has been very positive.

"This is a very high profile scheme in Ireland and our success in delivering this first stage is down to the capability of our multi-disciplinary teams across Mouchel and our supply chain partners."

To ensure the best practice in procurement is used, the A5WTC team also includes Rowsell Wright, providing advice on integrated delivery solutions.

Chandler KBS complete the team with its expertise in the cost management of the scheme.

The preferred corridor has been communicated to the public through the press, mail shots and an update on www.a5wtc.com.

Public consultation will follow in spring 2009, ultimately resulting in the identification of a preferred route to be announced in autumn 2009.

A Mouchel spokesman added: "With a recent increase in Cross-Border links in Ireland, the business environment, north and south, has developed with infrastructure and regeneration schemes being implemented.

"Attracting schemes such as the A5 has allowed Mouchel to continue to develop a multi disciplinary team in both Northern and Southern Ireland, leading to sustained growth for the business."
