Greystones Library in Co Wexford has closed for major renovation works.
The new facility will include a 130 square metre extension, encompassing a study space, IT area, and social room.
A spokesman for the library said natural light will play a major part in the project, focusing on the nearby sea view.
A temporary library will be open by February 16 at the new Greystones community centre and swimming pool on Mill Road.
IT facilities, newspapers and magazines will be made available to the public.
The closure was particularly poignant for long-serving librarian Eibhlin ni Dhonnchadh, who retired on the last day.
Eibhlin also ran a weekly arts and crafts workshops during her many years at the library.
