Wicklow Harbour Works Behind Schedule

A harbour development in the Wicklow town of Greystones is three months behind schedule, the local council has learned.

The Town Manager also warned councillors the scheme could fall even further behind the planned completion date due to adverse weather issues.

Seán Quirke said: "We are heading into a difficult period weather wise and we have to grab whatever weather and tide breaks we get.


"We hope to pick up progress in the summer months but the next couple of months will be difficult."

Councillor Derek Mitchell asked for dog bins, which had been removed as the development progressed, to be reinstated.

Mr Quirke said he would look into the matter.

Mr Mitchell also called for a public lecture on the schematics of the project and an outline of how the completed harbour development would benefit the local area.

The Town Manager said he believed the consultants involved in the development would be interested in facilitating this.

When asked what the current works encompassed, Mr Quirke said contractors were laying the harbour wall under water and the blocks in the wall were ten high and two deep.
