Ireland's Education Minister Batt O'Keeffe has officially opened a new extension in Carrowholly National School in Westport, County Mayo.
The school received €406,000 under the Permanent Accommodation Scheme to build two extra classrooms and two resource rooms.
Speaking at the school, Minister O'Keeffe said parents and the local community had worked tirelessly to progress the project.
"Today marks the culmination of much planning and hard work," he said.
Minister O'Keeffe congratulated the school on its third Green Flag which was raised today for its rainwater harvesting work.
Rainwater harvesting is the gathering, or accumulating and storing, of rainwater.
Carrowholly National School is the first school to have a rainwater harvesting system.
"This is a marvellous achievement that demonstrates your enthusiasm and commitment to the care of our environment.
"I'd also like to congratulate Carrowholly National School on the success of its hurling and football teams.
"Participation in sports brings an appreciation of personal health and fitness, develops a positive self-image and teaches young people how to work as part of a team," added the Minister.
