State Education Minister Batt O'Keeffe has opened a new €540,000 extension in Kilbonane National School, in Aherla, Co Cork.
The extension has four classrooms, a learning support room, a resource room, and an office.
Speaking at the school, Minister O'Keeffe said: "This project came about through the dedication and hard work of the local community supported by Government.
"I commend the school's principal, Máiréad O'Sullivan, the Board of Management, teachers, parents, pupils and everyone who've worked so hard to bring this project to completion.
"I'd also like to congratulate Kilbonane National School on reaching the finals of the Indoor Hurling series in April."
He added: "The promotion of sport in a school is important because it fosters a sense of teamwork and fair play. These skills will benefit the children throughout their lives."
