Electrician Union Talks, Amid Third Day Action

Talks between Irish electricians and employers are to recommence today, as industrial action by workers rumbles on into its third day.

Union members have insisted they will continue their picket until a pay dispute is settled.

A meeting between both sides will be held at the Labour Relations Agency later today, the third bid to reach agreement.

Technical Engineering and Electrical Union general secretary, Eamon Devoy, agreed to further talks by calling for a meaningful offer from employers.


"We are doing so out of deference to the Tánaiste and in the public interest," he said.

"We are willing to engage in meaningful talks with the employers. However for these to take place will require the employers putting a meaningful offer on the table, which has not happened to date."

Tánaiste, and Trade Minister, Mary Coughlan called on both sides to reenter negotiations, however, so far the state has held off on forcing the union and employers to find resolution.

The TEEU is seeking a €2.49-an-hour pay rise on standard wages of €21.49 an hour.
