A Belfast engineering lecturer has been recognised for his teaching successes.
Harry McGonigle, an Engineering Skills for Industry lecturer at Belfast Metropolitan College, picked up the LSDAni award for Outstanding Achievement in Teaching and Learning.
The prize was awarded at the recent Learning and Skills Development Agency (LSDA) Northern Ireland conference at the Galgorm Hotel.
The award was presented to Mr McGonigle for his outstanding work in co-ordinating and delivering the innovative Engineering Skills for Industry programme at the college.
The Engineering Skills for Industry programme targets the jobless in areas where unemployment is prevalent and provides individuals with a personal development plan that includes mentoring, Essential Skills and Employment Skills, as well as periods of work placement.
In the past six years, under Mr McGonigle's direction, over 150 trainees have gained employment and many have attained the industry accredited NVQ Level II Engineering qualification.
Congratulating him on his award, Maura Lavery, Deputy Director for Curriculum Services said: "This award is a testament to Harry’s leadership, motivation and absolute commitment to his students and the Engineering Industry in Northern Ireland.
"Over the past six years he has made a sustained contribution to delivering exceptional education and training provision to the long term unemployed and has made a positive impact on the lives of many individuals."
