Irish-owned engineering firm Kentz has secured a $150m (€87m) telecommunications contract in western Australia.
The deal was awarded by Chevron Australia for the Gorgon Project, and will see the group design, supply, install, test and commission the telecommunications scope on Barrow Island.
The Gorgon Project is a joint venture between the Australian subsidiaries of Chevron (Operator), ExxonMobil and Shell, to develop the Greater Gorgon gas fields, located between 130km and 200km off the north-west coast of Western Australia.
The Greater Gorgon gas fields are Australia's largest-known gas resource, containing around 40 trillion cubic feet of gas.
Government approval is still needed in order for the work to go ahead.
Kentz chief executive Hugh O'Donnell said: "This turnkey telecommunications project draws upon a number of Kentz’s skill sets, not only from an engineering, design and systems integration perspective but also delivering remote site installation and commissioning."
In June, Kentz and its Australian joint venture partners was the successful tender for a large construction project contract on the Barrow Island, awarded by Chevron Australia.
