Probe Into Tallaght Work Death

Two investigations are under way following the death of a man in his 30s at a pub in Tallaght, Dublin, on Saturday night.

The death of the man (31), from the Clondalkin area, appears to have been a workplace death.

He was found dead in a goods lift at the Blue Bar in Belgard Square at about 6pm.

A spokesman said the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) was aware of the incident and inspectors had been on the scene on Saturday evening. An investigation is ongoing.

Gardaí are also investigating the death.

Early indications appear to indicate the man was crushed in the incident.

The Health and Safety Authority has also today issued a warning to workers to take appropriate precautions when working at a height.

The warning comes as the Authority revealed that there have been 7 workers killed as a result of a fall so far this year, with 5 of these occurring in the construction industry.

Last year there were 15 construction related deaths in total, with 3 of these as a result of a fall from height.

Expressing concern at the increase, Martin O’Dea, Senior Inspector with the Health and Safety Authority said: "Compared to last year, there has been a significant increase in deaths as a result of a fall.

"Most of the accidents have involved falls from roofs and ladders. Unsecured ladders are particularly dangerous and I would urge workers to organise and plan their work with their safety and health in mind.

"It's also very important that workers only use equipment that is suitable to the job."
