Almost one in five householders were dissatisfied with the standard of their accommodation in 2007, new figures have revealed.
Data, published by the Central Statistics Office, showed 17% of Irish residents did not rate their homes highly.
According to the office, the two-year-old investigation found dissatisfaction levels of 27% in rented households, compared to just 13% among owner-occupiers.
The highest levels of dissatisfaction were among households on lower incomes, households renting at below the market rate and households in the border, midlands and western regions.
Shortage of space, particularly among apartment dwellers were cited as the main problems.
