Dublin Deputy Attacks Developer Dunne

A Dublin deputy called on Sean Dunne’s hotel group to "stop flouting the planning regulations," after a shop and off-licence opened in his Ballsbridge Hotel without planning permission.

Fine Gael's Lucinda Creighton said the shop should be shut "down right now".

"Sean Dunne cannot be allowed to disregard planning laws whenever it suits him. Planning is for everyone, even billionaire developers with their own hotels," she said.

“Last year he was displaying advertising banners without planning permission. This year he is opening a shop selling cheap alcohol, again without planning permission.

"Planning law is clear. Under the 2001 Regulations you do not need planning permission to convert a pub into a shop. This is an exempted change of use."

However, Deputy Creighton said this was amended by the Planning and Development Regulations 2005, which states that this exemption "does not include any use … for the sale of … intoxicating liquor for consumption off the premises".

"A shop selling liquor needs planning permission, which he hasn’t got," said the deputy.
