Welcoming the start of the scheme, local district housing manager Aidan Brannigan said: "The Housing Executive continues to invest significantly in all parts of Down District to provide its tenants with high quality homes.
"Schemes carried out as part of the External Maintenance Programme are instrumental in achieving this, whilst ensuring that homes are improved on a regular basis."

As part of this scheme defective windows and external doors will be replaced or repaired as necessary.
Other typical external enhancements include the cleaning and repair of roofs, fascias, soffits, rainwater goods, paths, steps, fences, railings and gates prior to painting.
"District Office staff will continue to work closely with the community and their representatives to ensure that work progresses as smoothly as possible," said Mr Brannigan.
PJ O'Hare, from Downpatrick Housing Community Network, said: "The Housing Community Network is pleased that the Housing Executive intends to carry out improvements to homes in the area.
"We have a very good working relationship with local Housing Executive staff and will continue to liaise closely with them as the scheme progresses to ensure that residents are kept fully informed."
