Revamped Botanic Gardens Building Named NI Project Of The Year

A project that transformed a section of Belfast's Botanic Gardens has been named Northern Ireland Project of the Year at the RICS Awards 2018.

The Tropical Ravine, a Victorian building with a host of tropical plants, was restored to its former self as part of a £3.8 million project. The revamped building was recently reopened to the public in April.

In additon, the project also scooped the award in Building Conservation.


Hosted by television presenter Paul Clark at the La Mon Hotel & Spa, Belfast, the RICS Awards celebrated inspirational initiatives and developments in land, real estate, construction and infrastructure.

Other winners on the night included:

• Commercial – Colby House, Belfast

• Community Benefit – St Paul II Primary School, Belfast

• Design through Innovation – Omagh Hospital and Primary Care Complex

• Infrastructure – Northern Ireland Ambulance Service Station, Enniskillen

• Regeneration – Newry Leisure Centre

• Residential – Rathgill, Bangor

• Tourism & Leisure – Titanic Hotel Belfast

All category winners will go on to compete against other regional winners at the national RICS Awards Grand Final in November 2018 to be crowned the overall UK winners in their categories.
