Iarnród Éireann Agrees Energia Deal

Iarnród Éireann has chosen Energia, one of Ireland's leading independent energy firm as its electricity supplier in a major new €25 million three-year deal.

The new deal will see Energia supplying Iarnród Éireann with 186 Gigawatt Hours (GwH) of electricity.

This electricity will be used to power the DART network, driving the carriages and powering the stations. Energia will also be supplying all of Iarnród Éireann’s depots throughout Ireland with electricity over the course of the agreement.

Commenting on the deal, Willie Pierce, Manager, Energy & Environment at Iarnród Éireann, said: "Iarnród Éireann uses a considerable amount of electricity each year operating the DART network and running an extensive network of stations and depots throughout Ireland.

"We are conscious of the need to drive down costs and to have a flexible arrangement with a reliable supplier, who can provide first class customer service. Energia won the contract on both counts, following a formal tender process, and we can confidently expect significant savings over the coming three years."

Gary Ryan, Director, Energia added: "Iarnród Éireann is one of the main providers of public transport in Ireland with an extensive network of depots and stations that we’ll be supplying with electricity under the terms of this deal. The DART network is a key piece of infrastructure for the Dublin region and we are happy to be playing a part in transporting millions of Dubliners around the city and county over the coming years."
