Waterside Redevelopment On Way

Plans for a multi-million redevelopment scheme in Londonderry's Waterside area have been revealed.

GSB Guernsey Trading Limited, part of the Orana Group, has submitted applications for the Crescent Link project with Derry's Planning Office.

The proposals for the 56-acre site include two applications – one for a Sainsbury’s superstore and a petrol station and a second for a ‘mixed-use’ development.

These applications could create 500 and 800 full and part-time jobs respectively.

The ‘mixed use’ development – which could create a total of 1,600 eventually – would include a six-screen cinema, a Premier Inn hotel, multi-storey office blocks, a healthcare facility, residential properties, a 769-space parking area and other retail outlets.

A statement from GSB Guernsey Trading Ltd said the proposal was designed to "mimic the most successful of the diverse schemes" examined throughout Europe and the USA.

"The masterplan, in combination with the recent Sainsbury’s application on the site, will reinforce the area’s position as a strategic gateway for Londonderry and act as a catalyst for future growth through the provision of jobs, investment and additional spin-offs," the statement continued.

The Orana Group revealed recently that it is also has similar multimillion pound plans for both Bridgend and Strabane.
