Part of the M1 will close this weekend for the start of three kilometres of resurfacing work.
The roadworks on the M1 Westbound between Junction 12 (The Birches), and Junction 13 (Beattie's Corner) will run from Friday 3 August to Monday 6 August 2012.
Mark McPeak, Roads Service's Project Manager said: "These essential works will strengthen the M1 so that it can carry today's very high traffic volumes, provide a high quality and an even running surface, thereby improving the safety and comfort of road users."
The works operations and traffic management arrangements have been carefully programmed to minimise inconvenience to the travelling public, however some disruption will be unavoidable.
To facilitate the works and for safety reasons, it will be essential to close the M1 during these works. Details of the planned closures are as follows:
•21:00 on Friday 3 August 2012 to 06.00 on Monday 6 August 2012 Westbound from Junction 12 (The Birches) to Junction 13 (Beattie's Corner).
Mr McPeak continued: "The work has been scheduled during the summer months to take advantage of the reduced traffic flows and working times will be restricted to overnight and weekends. However, some delays will be inevitable and we would ask that motorists be patient as these essential works progress."
