Cliftonville Road Watermains Improvement Progressing Well

NI Water has announced that the first phase of our Watermains Improvement Programme on the Cliftonville Road is progressing well, and work from the Antrim Road junction to Rosapenna Drive and Oldpark Avenue to Cliftonville Circus is ahead of schedule.

As a consequence of this and following consultation with local elected representatives and businesses, we wish to announce that work on the third section of the programme of work between Rosapenna Drive and Oldpark Avenue, that was originally planned for next summer will now be brought forward and will commence on Monday 6th August 2012. It is expected that this work will be completed by the end of August 2012.

In order to ensure the safety of the travelling public and our contractors, the one-way traffic system will continue for the duration of the works as agreed with DRD Roads Service. Two-way traffic will be restored at the end of August.

Traffic wishing to travel towards the Antrim Road will continue as normal. However traffic wishing to travel towards Oldpark Road, will be diverted via Cavehill Road and Westland Road. To facilitate local traffic movement, a number of the side roads will be opened.

This essential improvement work has been planned to take place over the summer months to reduce disruption on the roads, as there will be less general and school traffic in the area. NI Water has also invested in extra resources on the ground during this scheme to ensure that the majority of the work is completed over the summer months.

Once complete, this project will be good news for the local area as the upgraded watermains will improve the reliability and flexibility of water supply, drinking water quality and will also help reduce leakage.
