The Irish Wind Energy Association (IWEA) has welcomed the publication of a new Green Paper on Energy Policy in Ireland, published by the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, also acknowledging the importance of a consultation process on the paper.

Kenneth Matthews, CEO IWEA, said: "The Green Paper very clearly outlines Ireland's requirement for safe and secure energy in the future and recognises the important role indigenous renewable energy sources, such as wind energy, have in securing a sustainable energy future for Ireland.

"We in IWEA have also encouraged open and factual dialogue and engagement on Irish energy policy and very much welcome the consultation process on the Green Paper, which we'd encourage all individuals and organisations with interest in Ireland’s energy future to participate in.

"The new Green Paper is an important development in helping Ireland address this situation and chart a course towards a more sustainable energy future, using indigenous renewable energy sources which will bring very considerable economic, environmental and social benefits to the country. Importantly all these benefits will be delivered without leading to any cost to Irish consumers as confirmed in the recent report by Pöyry and Cambridge Econometrics, the most comprehensive independent study completed to date on the development of wind energy in Ireland."
