Sinn Fein has hit out at the government for failing to introduce a Climate Change Bill.

Senator David Cullinane has said that the government is not dealing with the issues of flooding and environmental damage.

He said: "Climate continues to be an ongoing issue not just in Ireland but on a global level.

"In Ireland we have seen all too frequently the damaging impact severe flooding that exacts a huge cost from society in terms of human suffering and a monetary cost to local authorities and the state.

"To do nothing is not an option. We need to address the issue of climate change and we need a climate change bill – not heads of bill.

"This is essential for economic growth; for protection of the environment and for global environmental justice."
