Climate Change Bill Is 'Inadequate' - Stanley

Sinn Féin has slammed the Government over the "inadequacy" of the Climate Action Bill.

Environment spokesperson, Brian Stanley, claims it fails to meet the requirements necessary to address climate change in the Irish context.

Deputy Stanley said: "It also broadly ignores the recommendations of the report of the all-party Environment Committee.


"The Committee report, and my own Climate Change Bill which contained its key proposals, focused on the need to embody targets for the reduction of emissions in legislation. It also set out practical means by which those targets could be achieved on a national and sectoral basis.

"None of this is contained in the proposed Bill which is vague on the key issues. Instead of setting targets in line with EU and international guidelines, the Bill merely refers all of that to yet to be published transition plans, and the establishment of new bodies to oversee those plans."
