Tanaiste Joan Burton has met with community campaigners to discuss their concerns over wind farms.
The meeting took place in Portlaoise on Wednesday morning before the Tanaiste's Ploughing itinerary.
It was chaired by Deputy Jack Wall, chairman of the Labour Parliamentary Party.
Labour Senator John Whelan said: "For my own part I want to commend Wind Aware for their responsible and sensible approach to engaging with the Tanaiste and calling off the planned protest at the Ploughing. I hope that their stance is rewarded and reflected in a policy shift to help break the current impasse on the long awaited new planning guidelines and regulations on wind farm development.
"I fully understand that there are two competing perspectives on this complex and vexed issue. We have to live up to our climate change and carbon emission targets and obligations. But this need not be achieved at the expense of destroying the Irish landscape and environment with thousands of industrial turbines."
