Essential Upgrades Underway At Roscommon Water Plant

Construction News Image
A €2 million programme of upgrades has commenced at County Roscommon's largest wastewater treatment plant.

Irish Water is delivering the project to increase capacity at the Monksland plant, and provide a platform for growth and development in the area. This scheme will also enable the wastewater treatment plant to handle increased storm water overflows protecting the receiving waters of the River Shannon, and reduce the risk of non compliance with the Wastewater Treatment Regulations.

Glan Agua is carrying out the works on behalf of Irish Water and Roscommon County Council.

They include the construction of a preliminary treatment works including inlet works, screens, grit removal, improved controls, improvements to the sludge handling facilities. The construction of a storm tank and overflow system will allow the wastewater treatment plant to handle increased flows in high rain fall events to ensure compliance with the Wastewater Treatment Regulations.

The work is expected to be substantially complete in December.
