Building regulations regarding fire safety standards for residential buildings and houses are being updated and improved, Northern Ireland's Department of Finance has announced.
The new requirements include provision of fire safety information for most types of premises undergoing building work.
They also introduce evacuation alert systems, secure information boxes, wayfinding signage and appropriate fire suppression systems, such as sprinklers, in new high rise residential buildings.
The new building regulations and associated technical guidance have been published and will come into effect this year on May 6.
In advance of these updates coming into effect, the Department of Finance is hosting two webinar events on January 16 and 23 to help industry prepare for the changes.
