Ward and Burke Construction Ltd is set to carry out water main replacement works on behalf of Uisce Éireann in Glantane, County Cork.
The works will take place along Monument to the Church in Glantane Village and Thullery Cross, and involve swapping over 850 metres of old water mains prone to bursts with new modern pipes.
Set to commence in early June, these works, under Uisce Éireann's national Leakage Reduction Programme, will ensure reduced levels of leakage and an improved water supply to customers upon completion in July.
Commenting on the project, Jack Cronin, Uisce Éireann said: "Old and damaged water mains remain a huge source of leakage and continue to impact communities right across Ireland, causing low pressure and supply disruption. Replacing these old water mains in poor condition will eliminate existing leaks and significantly reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.
"By prioritising these upgrades, we are helping communities like Glantane to thrive. We would like to thank local residents for their cooperation and patience as we carry out these essential works."
To facilitate the safe delivery of the project and to minimise impact on the community, areas of work will be limited to short sections. Traffic management will be in place during this time and some short-term water supply interruptions may incur. However, the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours' notice prior to any planned water interruptions.
