GMC Utilities Group is set to deliver essential upgrades on behalf of Uisce Éireann to the water supply in The Liberties area of Dublin 8.

The works are taking place over several phases and, in total, will involve the replacement of over one kilometre of aged water mains with new modern pipes as part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme. The works will also involve laying new water service connections from the public watermain in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customers' water supply.

Declan Healy, Programme Manager with Uisce Éireann, outlined the benefits of this project: "Replacing these old and damaged pipes will significantly lower the instances of bursts and outages on the network, eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean water lost into the ground.

"The works will also improve the operation of the network reducing the need to manage frequent repairs of aging cast iron watermains resulting in a positive impact on leakage and the daily lives of the residents and businesses in Meath Street. We would like to thank community for their support and patience in advance as we carry out these essential works."

Traffic management will be in place, to safely and efficiently deliver the project, in the form of phased road and lane closures with diversion routes. Impacted streets are Meath Street, Thomas Street, Earl Street South and The Coombe. The project is expected to be complete by late Autumn 2025.
