A road realignment scheme has started on Ballymaconaghy Road, Castlereagh, with work scheduled to continue until the end of November.
The project forms part of planning conditions for a major housing development in the area. It will see the upper section of Ballymaconaghy Road realigned to create a right-turn pocket into the site. Safety improvements are also planned, including new footways, street lighting and pedestrian crossing facilities.
Phase one of the scheme requires a three-month road closure. Diversions have been put in place and are signposted on approach to the site.
Officials said the works have been carefully programmed and traffic management arrangements introduced to reduce disruption, but drivers are being warned to expect delays. Road users are advised to allow extra time for journeys and to follow temporary traffic restrictions.
Completion remains on track for the end of November, though the Department has cautioned this is subject to favourable weather. Further closures may also be required, but the public will be kept updated on any changes.
