Uisce Éireann has imposed a Boil Water Notice on customers served by the Glenary Public Water Supply in Clonmel, following consultation with the HSE.
The Kilcomma/Finger Post areas in Co Waterford are also impacted. The precaution is in place for public health reasons after an overnight issue at the water treatment plant compromised disinfection, affecting the quality of treated water leaving the facility. Around 11,000 customers are affected.
All customers on this supply must boil water before use until further notice. Affected zones include parts of Clonmel town centre and surrounding areas, such as Cashel Road, Cahir Road and the Ring Road. A map of the impacted area is available on water.ie.
Customers can confirm if their property is included by visiting the Water Quality section of water.ie and entering their Eircode, or by calling Uisce Éireann’s 24/7 customer care line on 1800 278 278. Updates will be provided via the Water Supply Updates section on water.ie, on X @IWCare, and through the customer care helpline. Vulnerable customers registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct notifications. Water is safe to drink once boiled.
Uisce Éireann’s drinking water experts are working to fix the issue and lift the notice as quickly and safely as possible, in ongoing consultation with the HSE. "Public health is Uisce Éireann number one priority and we would like to assure customers that the notice has been put in place to protect public health. We acknowledge the inconvenience caused to homes and businesses and would like to assure customers that we are working to resolve the issue and lift the notice as quickly and safely as possible," said Uisce Éireann’s Pierce Faherty.
Uisce Éireann noted "that its drinking water standards, set under EU Drinking Water Regulations, are stringent and include wide safety margins. Where monitoring identifies any risk to water quality, the HSE is consulted and Boil Water Notices are issued to safeguard the public. Immediate corrective actions are taken to address the root cause so the notice can be lifted as soon as it is safe to do so, with HSE agreement."
