Significant headway has been made on the new Ballycastle Leisure Centre at Quay Road, with the structure and surrounding public realm continuing to take shape as the project advances into its next phase.
Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has issued an update confirming steady progress across the main building, outdoor amenities, access routes and landscaped areas.
The scheme represents a major investment in sport, leisure and wellbeing for Ballycastle and the wider area. When finished, the complex will include a 25m, four-lane swimming pool, gym and fitness suite, activity studio, health suite and a bouldering wall. Beyond the building, the development will provide an Accessible Play Park, a Pump Track, and new walking and cycling links to support active travel and outdoor recreation.
Construction momentum through spring and summer has been aided by favourable weather and strong collaboration among the project's partners.
Key milestones now reached across the site include:
- Pool hall: Glazing installation is in progress, moving the external envelope towards completion.
- Bouldering wall: The wall is in place and awaiting final fixings.
- Swimming pool and changing: Most tiling has been completed, with further works ongoing.
- Activity areas: Internal spaces are becoming clearly defined, providing a clearer picture of the finished layout.
- Pump Track: Fully installed and in position.
- Accessible Play Park: Works continue, with the play space taking form.
- Roads, access and landscaping: Ongoing works across the wider development to shape links and green spaces.
Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Dawn Huggins, said: "It is extremely encouraging to see Ballycastle Leisure Centre continuing to take shape, with significant milestones now visible across the site.
"For the local community, this is an important stage in the project. What was once a vision for Ballycastle is now becoming increasingly tangible, with the swimming pool, bouldering wall, Pump Track and other elements of the development giving a real sense of what this new facility will offer.
"This is a significant investment in Ballycastle and the wider area. Once complete, the Leisure Centre and its surrounding facilities will provide opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to swim, exercise, climb, play, walk and cycle, supporting active lifestyles and community wellbeing.
"There is still work to be completed, but the progress made in recent months is very positive. We look forward to keeping the community informed as the project moves towards completion."
As the project moves into the autumn and winter period, the focus will shift increasingly to finishing internal areas and concluding remaining external elements, including roads, access and landscaping.
The Council will continue to share regular updates as work progresses, with more detail to follow on the range of facilities, activities and programmes that will be available.
Throughout the build, the Council has been documenting key stages, charting the site's transformation to allow the community to follow its journey from construction to completion.
