Job growth in the Irish construction sector has suffered further slowdown, a report published today has shown.
New figures published by the Central Statistics Office says employment in this second increased by just 1.7 per cent in the year to the end of August, compared to 10.2 per cent in the previous 12-month period.
Overall employment levels were up by 3.3 per cent, with foreign nationals accounting for the vast majority of the increase.
The number of unemployed people was also up by around 1.2 per cent to just over 106,000.
However, the official unemployment rate at the end of August was 4.4 per cent, down slightly from 4.5 per cent in May.
